OK to be ignorant

There are some things it is OK to be ignorant of. Like when I was at the doctor’s office yesterday, waiting, and wondering to myself why there’s a pamphlet entitled ‘Cotton’ in the same rack as the STD and Drugs pamphlets. It was a long wait, so I picked one up. Turns out it’s about heroin. Unbeknownst to me, there’s an important part of the junkie’s kit called ‘a cotton’, which can be a vector for disease if reused. I think I’m OK with not being hip enough to have known that before.

No real surprise

When it was revealed on today’s Young and Restless, that Ricky might have murdered his college girlfriend, I certainly wasn’t surprised. I’ve been yelling that at the TV since they first mentioned the girl, and her death by ‘suicide’. It was really the most obvious next step for his character’s development.

They are making it really easy to consider giving up not just cable, but TV altogether for a while.

Dancing Burgers

Actually two separate things, but over the same evening.

First the dancing. Local burlesque icons, The Can Can Castaways, setup a crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo. I contributed and got to see a rehearsal last night. I don’t want to reveal any spoilers, but suffice it to say, they’ve upped the ante on their stage contraptions, having learned some welding, it looks like. The new show is titled Tune In Tokyo, and looks like it will have an appropriate theme, modern and hyper-paced. I can’t wait for opening night to see the whole thing in full costumes.

Then the burger. There’s a bar-n-grill, descriptively enough it is named Sport Bar. I’ve had a groupon to there for a while now, and it was on the walk home from the dancing, and I’d heard they have a burger where the patty is made with ground bacon. I really hope that it isn’t 100% bacon (and it certainly tasted like a mix of beef and bacon), because if it was, red in the center seems like a bad thing. Anywho, it was tasty enough, but not actually as bacon-y as I expected. And since the place is literally under the space needle, it is way over-priced, so even with the groupon, it was an over-valued meal. Next time I see a groupon for the Five Point….same ‘hood, infinitely better value (but only 1 TV).

Ever since King Kong, I’ve had a soft spot for Jack Black, and his work on the cartoon episodes of King Fu Panda have only improved my opinion of him. Now he’s back with Kyle Gass, and a new Tenacious D album,

I like it so far. A good mix of rock and comedy, quickly witted yet still full of authentic growling guitars.

Freaky Failure

One of the lights at my place died yesterday, but in a way I’ve never seen an incandescent light fail. When I turned the light on, it started to flash rapidly, 1-3 times per second, for about 5 seconds, and then went completely dark. If the other light on the same circuit hadn’t stayed rock-steady through the experience, I would have assumed failing wiring in the lightswitch.

Kitty Concerns

Yesterday when I got home from the doc, found the cat had made a little mess by the litter box, and missed it entirely with a pee. After I cleaned everything up, I put the drip pan from the old clothes washer under the litter box, as an extra insurance policy.

This morning, on my way to work, I noticed the cat hadn’t used the box at all since. No pee or poo for over 12 hours.

Hrm.

UPDATE: Litter box is still untouched, but twist isn’t acting especially unhappy.

Band Idea

Culian Jope – An all-Julian-Cope-covers band. I’ll need a drummer, guitarist, bass player, and a real keyboarder. My simplistic tinklings would never do for playing out, and hopefully I’ll be busy as lead singer, naked in a tortoise shell.

Ok, we’ll do at least one Eurythmics cover too. And a Rolf Harris.

If, for example, you have a date input field, and you are going to automatically enter the separators between month, day, and year, just don’t allow the user to insert extras, only use the numeric keys entered, and ignore any extra key strokes. This is not rocket science people, seriously.

Lego is having a sale on Star Wars toys, in honor of May The 4th Be With You. The Super Star Destroyer is 80 bucks off?! Of course that still leaves it above 300 bucks. d’ohwell.
