In the big book of strange windows bugs, have discovered an odd situation with my win7 box at work, where there are certain directories that the os refuses to copy, from one external USB drive to another. It doesn’t give any error message, just sits there. I’ve tried ctrl-c/ctrl-v, and right click/context-menu cut/paste, and the behavior is the same. The directory before this one, alphabetically, copies without issue, and the directory that follows it copies OK as well, but 3 directories so far are refusing to copy. I’ll have to see what happens with robocopy next I guess. If it was a product I was testing for money, I’d try root-causing it, seeing if a recursive copy from the parent directory shows the same directory-specific issues, but I’d rather just work around the issue and move on.

Something hokey is going on with the ‘simple’ wordpress install at dreamhost. The stats plugin keeps disappearing and reappearing. I haven’t noticed anything odd with the site itself, but one should always be on guard for the unknown.

UPDATE: Dreamhost seems to have intentionally removed the wp-shortstat.php plugin from their system. They claim it’s not compatible with the version of wordpress they are using, a statement which ignores the weeks it was working just fine. Maybe it was thrashing the DB in the background? It wouldn’t be half as annoying if there was any other way to get stats for a ‘simple’ install, but they purposely place ‘simple’ installs in a location you can not edit at all.
