Nostalgic Dissonance

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Experienced a bit of nostalgic dissonance this weekend, watching the blu-ray Star Wars I got for Christmas. I can overlook most of the little edits and ‘upgraded’ special effects, though Greedo is an annoyance still, but when you get to the final movie, its bad enough that they aren’t playing the proper Yub Nub song, and have a bunch of inserted views from other planets’ celebrations, but when they get to the final glowing trio of Jedi, they put Hayden Christensen in, which made me IMDB it…he was freakin TWO YEARS OLD when Jedi came out.

WTF George Lucas?!?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Back when I worked at the music company, I got access to the Star Wars music box set and was annoyed by how it was missing Yub Nub. Today on random, I discover that they did include an all new song, Jedi Rocks.

Really? I can’t get my cuteness-overload of Ewok celebration, but I can get a cheesetastic 80′s rock revisioning?

They include some good bits from the live show.

Wishful Drinking is Fun

Monday, April 6th, 2009

I made it out this weekend to see Carrie Fisher‘s Wishful Drinking.

It was a really amusing show, and I ended up wishing I’d spent the extra dough for a front row seat, in hopes that she’d have called on me, but still totally worth going, for any seat in the house.

It will be interesting, listening to the audiobook version next, since alot of the stage show dealt with images on the screen behind her, or props that came down from the ceiling.  It seems I really missed out though, as her mom came to opening night.

Quite the experience.   She told a few stories about her time with Paul Simon, something I knew but hadn’t ever really processed into an awareness that some of my fave songs might have something to do with Carrie.
