Wasted money

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

I’m not a big fan of political strategist companies, who’ve commoditized our democracy so that whomever has the biggest warchest wins, but that’s the way of the world these days, so be it.
So it’s an annoyed amusement, when I get one of those massive postcard fliers for some nameless PAC that doesn’t have any positive agenda to put forward, they just want you to know how much they hate the current guy, and they have a link to website for information about their campaign…and the website is a wordpress site that’s still locked down to admin users only. Truly brilliant. Whomever paid WinPower Strategies for their anti port commissioner campaign seems to have wasted their money. oops.

You will be credited with voting

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

I had heard you can track the progress of your mail-in ballot, so went to the king county elections website (live view of the envelope opening station) to check it out.  After giving my info, it comes back and says that my ballot has been received, and my signature verified, then closes with the semi-sinister “you will be credited with voting”.    I’m sure it’s just wishy-wash-speak, but it still comes across a little odd to me.  Nothing about my voted being recorded, only that I’m credited for the process of voting.

Credited with whom, and what can I turn these credits over for, candy?  I like candy.

No More Warcraft

Oh Blizzard.

It’s not enough to make millions off the masses of weed smoking college students wasting away their education, no you have to help track down low level pot dealers who’ve fled to Canada.  I’m willing to let you do most anything you want with my $45/month, but not that.

I’ve got plenty of books to catch up on reading anyways.

Rep Reichert, Repub To The End

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Rep Dave Reichert wants you to know that he’s going to stick by his republican ideals of selfish greed to the end. He’d rather people had no health care, than health care that was metered by the feds.
I’m sure all the parents with dead children totally agree with him. Far better that Tommy and Susie died of easily preventable diseases, than big bad govt happened to be the one to pick up the tab. If only all those rich republicans donated enough to the hospitals that we didn’t need socialism in health care.
But that’s just crazy talk.

UPDATE:  So, right after the “news” gives Dave “poor kid hater” Reichert his bully pulpit to tell us about just how evil he is, some disturbing PAC-like entity pays for an ad asking people to call Dave and thank him for voting to fund childrens healthcare.  Um, hello?   He voted against funding healthcare, not for it.  He just said so.

Ralph Nader, class act (NOT)

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

I’m watching the end of Fox News’ election coverage, waiting for the local news to start up, and they are interviewing Ralph Nader.  The fox anchor brings up a statement Ralph made to someone else earlier, that it remained to be seen if Obama would turn out to be all americans have hoped for, or “just an Uncle Tom for big business”.  It seemed pretty obvious that the fox guy thought Ralph had just mis-spoken, and tried to give him a chance to reword his worries in a little less offensive manner, but Ralph was having none of it, and really making a total ass of himself.  I can understand once again, how my friend who used to work with Ralph back in the ’70s, could have such a low opinion of the man.  It was pretty obvious that his pride was more important than the message he’d intended to send.  It DOES remain to be seen how well Obama will turn out in practice.  George W said a lot of stuff about uniting the country in his acceptance speech too.

But everyone knows, you won’t get anyone to listen that far into your statement, if you start it off with racist shit like that.

My Problem With Pallin

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Whatever qualifications she has, when McCain picked her, he lost me.  Not because I think a woman shouldn’t be president, but because she was picked for her political value, not her suitability to be president.  The choice made it very clear that John McCain could care less about America, so long as he gets to ride the horse into the ground.

You could have picked the best person for the job.  Instead you picked the person most likely to get the job.

Shame on McCain.

Politics, Bedfellows, Strange

There’s a TV ad here in Washington where the Repub candidate tries to trash the Demo candidate for cutting taxes. LOLZ. What a world.
