Max PAX 2010

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Spent time all three days at PAX this year.  Even managed to stick around the expo hall long enough into tear down to get some sweet shots of them maneuvering the cherry pickers down the aisles.

Of Dice and Men was really fun to watch.  Hooray for our inside connections, no waiting in line for us =p

Will make a separate post for any special pictures that come out.  Spent a lot of time playing with long exposures this year, learning the camera and whatnot.  Turns out all my ND filter stacking wasn’t required, silly me kept forgetting to turn down the ISO on the first day.  I do learn eventually.  Sometimes.

Photo Safari – St Patty’s Run

Monday, March 15th, 2010

I was headed downtown sunday to breakfast at the hurricane, when I spotted the st patty’s day run, and made a side trip to take some pictures.

There were guys in green full-body spandex suits that I saw a couple of times, the last group of walkers, some people in ‘costumes’ like a bathrobebarrels of Guinnessmohawk’d guys with cases of beer strapped to their backs, and some guy who just wanted to walk his dog in peace, and at least 1 runner who didn’t seem to be wearing any green at all. 99 was full of pedestrians in both directions well past the sky-bridge to work.

Pre-Tulips Trip

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Headed up to the Skagit Valley to check out what flowers had budded already.  None of the major tulip fields were ready yet, but there were some daffodils.  I made a stop at a nursery across the road from them and got good pics of a bee, a nice shot of a dew covered flower, some noisy sheep, some lama and chickens.  There was also a field full of white birds.

My first experiments with light painting gave me more ideas than usable images. I picked up a couple of new light sources while I was working on another project, so hopefully I can make another photo safari this weekend.

Little Girl PC, You Convinced Me

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

If you watch American TV, you’ve probably seen the little girl who stitches some photos together as part of one of the cute “I’m a PC” ads.  Since I love photo-stitching, I wanted to check it out.

It turns out to work much better than my old standby, autostitch.   My first attempt is the Ghandi statue on SF Bay, which autostitch couldn’t handle.  I’m going to do some re-attempts on pano that were successful under autostitch, see what they look like under the MS version (Live Photo Gallery).

A Reason to Visit DC

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I am so taking a trip to Washington DC, so I can take some money mirror pics. I wonder what other country currencies could provide this sort of experience. Or product boxes for that matter…is there a spot where the land-o-lakes butter lady actually ‘stood’? Inquiring minds want to know.
