WTF George Lucas?!?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Back when I worked at the music company, I got access to the Star Wars music box set and was annoyed by how it was missing Yub Nub. Today on random, I discover that they did include an all new song, Jedi Rocks.

Really? I can’t get my cuteness-overload of Ewok celebration, but I can get a cheesetastic 80′s rock revisioning?

Hot Tub Time Machine

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Hot Tub Time Machine turns out to be better than expected.  Ends on a much more sentimental and thoughtful note than I would have thought possible from such a silly premise.  Good performances and lots of 80′s fashion disaster flashbacks, with of course a Better Off Dead reference…at least one that I caught, surely there were more =p

Been Done

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Oh internet, with a billion people online (not to scale), anything I can think of to look for, someone has done, in some form or fashion.  I’m getting ready this morning, listening to some tunes on the ipad, and it occurs to me how droll it would be to walk down the street with it on my shoulder like an old skool boom box.  Someone thought of it, and made a gelaskin already =p

Archive Synchronicity

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

So I’m looking around online for signs of a friend that has disappeared from our social circle recently, half worried that he’s gone and got himself into some sort of trouble that would explain his absence from the usual haunt.  I find no recent news articles, so that’s good, but I do find an old nwtekno thread, where someone with a handle that matches his name posts something.  It’s probably not him, then again, who knows.  What’s funny is that a few posts up, I spot an old raving buddy, who says “Pardon me, but I’m rather new to this whole ‘electronic’ ‘music’ thing. I only listen to Paul Oakenfold. So… what’s IDM?”

Oh how times have changed.  I’m sure he knows all the colors of the ishkur rainbow by now.

Founding the Past

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

While prepping all of my old boneyard machines for donation to Interconnection, found an old version of my original website, funkaspuck, complete with a cache of some old poetry.  Oh the days before I knew I could drown my misery in alcohol =p

Finally Found

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Finally found the right search terms to find another childhood book series I only half remembered.  Turns out it was “Danny Dunn“.  I could really only remember two stories’ plots, and that only pieces.  One was a robot dragonfly, and the other was a cold ray that they used to cause rain, IIRC.  I was about ready to spend an askme, but for once, there really was a previous question that applied to my current question, and the answer was revealed.

happy happy, joy joy

Christian House Music

Monday, August 31st, 2009

It was the summer between jr and sr years of college.  I was working at a christian summer camp.  The owner installed a CD jukebox in the cafeteria, and one of the albums in it was Adventures in the Land of Big Beats and Happy Feets.  They basically took some high-energy mixes of then-popular  “contemporary christian” tunes, and linked them together with some odd little musical interludes.  In many ways, I think the interludes are better than the actual songs.  Every track is drenched in 80′s synth, and they all seem to have been chosen for their indirect lyrical references to God.  It ends up being an overall enjoyable album, not overtly preachy, but clean enough for a church youth pastor.

Ain’t It Funky Now

I think this might be one of my roommates from high school.

I am so going up to Victoria to ride the zip lines.  The summer camp I went to as a kid, and worked at as a college student, had one that went down the bluffs in Branson. It sounds like nothing on this experience….
