Ozzie’s Karaoke?

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Much like a friend posted on his facebook, my high school era song-memory turns out to be pretty strong, making me think I’ve been missing out on karaoke possibilities, not looking for Phil Colins/Genesis songs. And of course, it’s off-weekend at Claire’s karaoke, so I’m thinking I might give Ozzie’s a first try. The only thing holding me back is the thought of how long a walk home it would be, at a later hour than seems safe for the route required, which means a taxi. Other people take taxi’s all the time, I suppose I could too.

Live Karaoke Mashup

Friday, January 13th, 2012

I’m thinking about trying to replicate one of my favorite GHP mashups, Bus Stop Runner, as a karaoke song tonight. It won’t be an exact replica, since the mashup cut’s and jumps around, but I think I can make it work as a straight sing-along; the tempo of Bus Stop will have to be adjusted in parts, and there’s at least one part where Shoot The Runner is in a chorus, while Bus Stop is in a verse, but it’s all fixable.

Why don’t smaller artists release their stuff in Karaoke form?

It seems like a significant source of word-of-mouth advertising, if a fan of yours can take a karaoke disc of your songs with them to any karaoke night they perform at.

For that matter, why don’t big artists release more of their stuff in Karaoke form?  Is it really that hard to make a second edit without the primary vocals?

Oh for the days when you could just turn your stereo all the way to one side and get a sing-a-long version that was built into the regular version.

UPDATE:  Out of curiosity, I emailed Michelle Shocked’s contact page, to see what they had to say about the lack of Michelle-oke.  She asked me for a top 10 list…that sounds hopeful =)

I Keep Things For A Reason

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

It happens, eventually.  Everything comes round again.  The Sega Saturn has been sitting in a crate for years now, and I finally have a use for it….Karaoke practice.  Since everyone insists I sing when I go to karaoke, and since they never have a song I really want to sing, I went ahead and spent a couple bucks on some karaoke CD-G’s of my own.  As I recall, I was kind of annoyed that the dreamcast didn’t include cd-g support, so there was a few minutes where I confused that annoyance with memory of support.  Eventually I remembered I had to back yet another generation.  Still works just fine.

No one has Gary Chapman’s “Your Love Stays With Me”, in karaoke form.  Maybe I can find someone to help me re-record the backing tracks.  You know, because other people want me to sing.  No interest on my part in singing, no sir. =p

Claire-oke

Karaoke at Claire’s last night was a little depressing.  Annie was a no-show, again.  The really cute waiter wasn’t working.  It was just me and the 80 year old guy, except for when one song.  Who woulda thunk that having zero advertising would pay off so well =\

Karaoke Night at Claire’s

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Nothing starts the night off right like having someone you call a friend tell you how much they liked the date they saw you with last, the one who could care less that you exist now.  Thanks, I feel so much better about being rejected now that I know you think they were nice.

Trashed my throat doing Louie-style “What a wonderful world”, then sang the Simon and Garfunkel style of “Bye  Bye Love”, to the Eisley Brother’s karaoke version with said-same-friend.  Going to be paying for that Louie-style I think.  It seemed to catch people off guard and amuse.  I’ll have to try it at Changes some night.

Reading Too Much Into Nothing

Last night, the cute bartender finished off my drink.

A bunch of us were out back, getting thirsty, it’s time to head back inside, and I see the bartender grab my basically empty drink.  I think what a strong work-ethic/help out your fellow bartender attitude.  Then the bartender finishes off the drink.

Do I take it as a compliment, the assumption that it’s safe to drink after me, or do they just grab random drinks when thirsty all the time?  By the transitive property of algebra, it’s like a first kiss, right?
