I just happened to notice that Emusic has taken it upon themselves to restart my subscription and charge me, without any notice. sigh.

Emusic bills again
Wednesday, March 16th, 2011The eMusic party is finally over
Wednesday, October 13th, 2010With the addition of UMG, eMusic draws their life as the alternative-little-guy-tries-to-be-good to an end. Gone are the simple to use credit-per-track subscription models. In their place is a credit-as-currency-that-you-can-lose model. It certainly places them in an odd position. Their value differentiation is gone. There’s no benefit to being a subscriber to emusic; you’re better off spending your money as you want to via amazon’s mp3 store. There’s nothing that emusic has exclusive control over, and now they aren’t any cheaper. I put my account on a 90 day hold; hopefully before the 90 days is up, their revenue stream will have suffered enough that they decide to ditch UMG altogether, and go back to indie-land where they can thrive. Rhapsody still rocks.
Shilelagh Law – Half The Bottle Down (AR)
Thursday, March 18th, 2010Shilelagh Law – Half The Bottle Down
A very nicely boisterous album of celtic folk, it puts me to mind of a mix somewhere between Amadan and Altan. I’m pretty sure I actually found them because I was looking for other people’s versions of “Big Strong Man”, and while I still prefer the one by Stone Soup Band, their version of “Tell Me Ma” is worth at least 3 listens so far =p
Sally Gardens/Joe Cooley’s – an instrumental number, fast paced drums and flute, a good song for dancing
Muirsheen Durkin/Whiskey in the Jar -Nice and rollicking versions of both
A couple slow songs I skipped. Overall, well worth the emusic credits I spent.
Bittersweet Syncrhonicity
Wednesday, July 1st, 2009What an oddly bittersweet synchronicity, that Michael Jackson would die just days before his full catalog became available on Emusic. And thanks to the new 12-credit-max-cost-per-album change, it’s working out to be an extra sweet deal.
