That was strange

Back in the days of President Clinton, when you wrote him an email, he’d send you back a physical form letter addressing your topic. When GWB took office, they stopped answering, or probably even reading them. When Obama took office, I hoped there’d be a return to the responsive, even if just in surface actions, government.

Just now, I got an email from Obama, thanking me writing. Either his response team is really slow, like months and months after the letter slow, or he’s sent out this email to every person whoever emailed something, out of some sort of OWS reaction? I dunno.

Or somebody hit the bulk-resend button on everyone who sent him emails about Egypt, back in April.

Funcom is to be avoided

What is the deal with supposedly legitimate companies and their inability to provide a working system for unsubscribing from their spam?  Is the idea that somehow, if they make it too hard to unsubscribe from updates about a game I haven’t played in years, I’ll change my mind about how boring their game is?  Well congratulations jerkfaces, I’ll just tell google to start blocking your emails for everyone.  I noticed that when I mark a funcom email as spam, google doesn’t offer a “these folks have a legit unsubscribe system, are you sure you don’t want to try using it first?” link, which suggests I’m not the only person whose gotten annoyed with their craptacular system.

Are you a game developer considering a publishing/distribution house?  Run far away from Funcom; I won’t buy any game from them ever again, and I discourage all gamers from buying from them either, at least until they de-scuzz-ify their email subscription system.

Oh Best Buy

Tease me with an email that says, “217253 points ($4345 in reward certificates*)”, then take it back a few hours later.  Not that I deserved them, well except in a cosmic karmic re-balancing sense maybe, if you take the positive dating experience gaps in my life as importantly as I do =p

Still, a free TV bigger than my futon would have been nice.
