Amazon Gaga Fail

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Amazon and Lady Gaga put together what would be a pretty sweet deal to encourage people to use the new Cloud Player, if it actually worked. They are offering her latest album, they say in full, for just $0.99. The problem is, after they’ve taken your money, they only give you access to the 2 song on the album, Americano and Scheibe. Half price is still a deal, but it’s not the deal promised, and it’s not the two tracks I would have picked. We’ll see how long it takes them to clear up their mess.

UPDATE: The album was eventually available, within 24 hours for sure. And now they are giving everyone a $5 credit on anything at amazon, not just mp3′s…they are trying to recover, I’ll give them that. We’ll all get to see how apple’s cloud handles it’s opening day someday.

There’s an ad for a beard dye that uses celebrities with salt-and-pepper facial hair. And not as before after people, they leave the commercial they way they came in.

Jumping the gun

Wired has announced the google ebooks store, and google has a link to download the app, but iTunes must not have gotten the message they were going live today; it fails any request with “not available in the U.S.” error message. lol

The android app is downloadable already. So far it’s nothing special; you use the browser to look for books, it does support background downloading. On the one book I tested so far, Tom Robbins – Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas, the title pages are not in color, and are displayed as tiny thumbnail sized images in a sea of white.

I was kind of hoping there was some obvious way to add your own books and take advantage of the sync feature, but if there is, I haven’t found it yet. The google help page for the app has a link to the forums, except the forum they send you to doesn’t exist yet. Maybe it’s the time I spent in the music biz, but I’m always unimpressed by such significant issues with release synchronization. It’s like they don’t even have a checklist of things to make sure got setup correctly by go-live-date.

UPDATE: A couple hours later (9am Pacific) and the iphone app is available now too.

I Can Take A Hint

Monday, November 1st, 2010

You got a new job couple weeks ago, I said congrats, you said you’d let me know when your first shift was.  Next thing I hear, you quit that job after a couple of nights.  Hrm, I hadn’t realized you’d started yet.  Oh well.

You get another job last friday, but now when I say to let me know when’s a good shift to stop by, you just ignore me.  You’ll respond to other things I’ve said, just not that.

OK, I get the hint.  I don’t understand why you spent two hours last week telling me how much you value my friendship and can’t understand why I think people don’t like me.  But I get it; I won’t ask again.  I am sorry I am me.

Background process at work wasn’t working, start going through the debug steps to figure out what’s gone wrong.  Box has 93GB free in /home, so that should be all good, but log has a bunch of ” No space left on device” errors, hrm.

df -h  Use%= 46

df -i iUse%  = 100

24 hours too slow

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Nothing like finding a release stopping bug 24 hours after you burnt the final CD’s to send to manufacturing.

ARGH.

Flickrsanity

Monday, June 21st, 2010

You gotta love when a small company gets taken over by a big faceless giant, and you start getting left-hand/right-hand problems where, for example, one group in a company will add a nifty feature to the product that reduces the pain of working with said company tremendously, only to have someone else in the same company make a change that sabotages all the work of the first group.

Someone at Yahoo added a feature to the Flickr Uploader that lets it automatically determine image rotation.

Someone else at Yahoo added a feature to the website that lets it automatically determine image rotation.

No one at Yahoo bothered to see if the two systems work together, so you have situation where the auto-rotation-magic of the Flickr Uploader is wiped out by the auto-rotation-magic of the website’s back end processes.

Morons.

Dere’s a TV on my head

Monday, April 5th, 2010

If you have the opportunity to drop a TV on your own head, I strongly recommend against it.  Even if you’re lucky like me, and don’t break your neck, it still won’t feel all that good.  I’m kinda surprised the side of my head isn’t all black and blue today.

On the other hand, it’s opened up a sight line to the wall behind, creating a spot for me to hang some of my art that’s in storage currently due to lack of open wall space.

The End is here

at least for my Signature Hot Chocolate drinking days.  The store that promised to stock up just for me let me know that their stock up order was refused, and they are out stock now and forever more =(

Oh Best Buy

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Tease me with an email that says, “217253 points ($4345 in reward certificates*)”, then take it back a few hours later.  Not that I deserved them, well except in a cosmic karmic re-balancing sense maybe, if you take the positive dating experience gaps in my life as importantly as I do =p

Still, a free TV bigger than my futon would have been nice.
