The Fratellis – Costello Music

I think the album title caught my eye in a is-this-an-album-of-elvis-costello-covers-i-see sort of way, and on Rhapsody, all the music is ‘free’, so download I did, without bothering to look beyond the track titles enough to see they weren’t Elvis songs. Turns out to be a fairly decent rock album, very peppy and energetic, without a single song skipped so far, and every one a toe-tapper even on first listen.

Totally Extreme!

For all the talk of kids these days being over-protected, over the weekend I found a bike playground so dangerous I hurt myself just taking pictures of it. Raised wooden platforms, banked turns around and through tree stumps, narry a sign of padding anywhere just a warning marking the course as “intermediate” and “no alternate routes are provided

Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM – Dark Matters

The show was sold out, with people standing out front hoping for tickets like it was a Grateful Dead show, and yet I lucked into a sweet seat in the 2nd row. I could have been in the first, but didn’t realize the normally-reserved-for-disabled-seats were open due to the crowd. In the end, I was kind of glad I didn’t sit in the very front row. When parts of the set start crashing down at the end of the 1st act, front-rowers were noticeably nervous for their feet. And what a show it was. If I have any complaints, it is how quickly and completely they abandoned the marionette. The 2nd act has none of the actuality of the doll, but they do go to great length to present the idea of a dancer controlled by an outside force. An interesting soundtrack, sort of late 90′s industrial techno-y for most of it. It was a worthy show to pay for.

Miike Snow Cult Logic

I keep trying to pay attention to the lyrics, but just keep getting caught up in whistling along to the tune.  You should listen.’

And no, that’s not a typo, the name of the group is Miike Snow.  It’s not a single person’s name.

I always wanted to do something like this, but I was thinking much more complicated, and far less complete, while probably potentially more detailed. I was going to use a police radio scanner and voice recognition, to automate presenting the city-stream in a human readable, and machine indexable, form. Then again, since they give out people’s names, numbers, address, etc etc, it might have been a little difficult in the end.
