I can’t give blood, ’cause I’ve had sex before, but at least I can give the company blood drive it’s Thanksgiving catchphrase, “don’t let cranberries be the only red stuff you share this Thanksgiving”.

I ended up winning one of the ‘date with a sounder’ charity auctions. I’m not sure how date-ish they expect things to get, when the prize package is tickets for 4, but we do get to meet Brad Evans (one of my invitees says, “he’s my 3rd favorite sounder!”) after the game. I am slightly tempted to rent a super-fast lens, but will see what I can do with what I’ve got, and restrain myself. Should be an interesting experience.

Dear Charities,
When I send you a check for my donation, to save you the transaction fee costs of using a credit card style payment, it would be really nice if you could deposit that check within a month of my sending it. I’m sure the reason you aren’t getting to the bank on a timely manner is that you are overworked, but the impression it gives me is that you just didn’t need the money as badly as you claimed up front, and it discourages me from donating to you next time, in a small and subtle way. Its hard to deny that there aren’t people with a more immediate need than you.

I finally got around to dropping off the rest of my “Will Kill Rush Limbaugh For Food” t-shirt inventory, at the thrift store for the Lifelong Aids Alliance. Of course it wasn’t till I was there dropping the shirts off that it occurred to me I’d forgotten to grab the shirts in the hope chest. I think those are mostly Suicide shirts; still need to get them over there, but not half as hip. I hope they turn out to be popular. I would love to start seeing the shirts out in public, around town.
Went to an event sponsored by Yelp last night. It was an interesting mix of non-profits looking for volunteers and donors, local beer and liquor companies selling their wares, the standard free Pop Chips (I really do need to actually buy a bag of those eventually, I like them, I just never know what aisle to find them in when actually shopping). There were musicians (I bought two CD’s) and painters (I bought one painting, to be picked up later…it’s possibly too big for my car, even with all the interior lain flat), and dancers. Cupcake Royale brought some mini chocolate and peanut-butter cupcakes. They brought so many, they were giving out little containers of three cakes to go at the end of the evening. very tasty.
I recently won a sculpture/pet-urn in a charity auction. It was graciously donated by Alex at CustomPetUrns.com. It looks really nice, and even though the auction ended up being a significant bargain compared to her usual pricing, when one of the tea-light holders broke in transit, even though perfectly packaged, she sent not 1, but 2 replacements. That’s pretty spiffy customer service for a transaction that’s a complete loss to begin with. If you have lost a pet, and are looking for an artistic way to keep the memory close, you could be well served by visiting her site.
UPDATE: Fixed pronouns, Alex IS one of those names….
Posit a world where open source software triumphed over Microsoft.
Would all the billions saved in corporate spending of MS Office, et al, have resulted in a windfall for charity comparable to that of Willy G?
I suspect not. I suspect that any ‘savings’ would have just been spent on business development, or dividends.
Got notification from Kiva that I’d gotten my first repayment credit. One of my two loans has paid back 6% of my investment, and on time. I went ahead and just donated the balance back to kiva for it’s own support. It’s not all GRAR and pretty pictures.
While prepping all of my old boneyard machines for donation to Interconnection, found an old version of my original website, funkaspuck, complete with a cache of some old poetry. Oh the days before I knew I could drown my misery in alcohol =p
