They say you can get used to anything.
We got new phones at work over the weekend, and with the new system, the main screen of the phone is backlit at all times, whereas the old phones, they only lit up when you were actively using them. As result, each time I see the new phone’s screen out of the corner of my eye, I think a call has come through, but I haven’t managed to hear the ring.
Perhaps in time, I will adjust my ‘notice that’ filter, but given how I still think the sleeve printing on my Horse/House/Tofu shirt, is some sort of schmutz, and try to brush it off, we shall see. I don’t wear that shirt every day.

In addition to my Lego work over the holiday season, I also managed to finally get all my musical keyboards setup again, well 99% setup. I need to stop by the store for some more patch cables, in theory, but practically, I don’t pre-program enough stuff that I’d ever have all three machines making noises at the same time. And I could just multi-track the individual instruments in editing.
I do need to pick up some vertical support bars for the extra set of wire rack shelves, to build a little sound isolated zone in the room for recording vocals with. Thinking it’s quiet enough in that room, I just need a simple set of blankets to stop the fan noise from getting in.
I think I’ve finally reached the tipping point in the new place, where enough stuff is put away or gotten rid of, that there’s space to work on the projects that have been backing up for years.

Yesterday, looking through my budget, I’m seeing a very tight future without some sort of income boost, or cost cutting measures.
Today, my team lead announces she is moving out of state and will be a remote employee, giving up some of her current responsibilities. I of course am filled with the likely naive hope that whomever ends up with said responsibilities will end up with a commensurate bump in income, and said someone will be me. I guess I should figure out what kind of baked goods the managers in charge of deciding what happens next, likes. =)

The north Seattle Scientology center near my old place closed up a few months ago. As I was driving past last night, I noticed that the new tenant, a psychic, seems to keep the parking lot full of customers, where it was always empty under the the Tom-Tom’s.
Their long-standing facility of 99 on Queen Anne has been closed for a while now too.
They have a new place, behind the crack mc-donald’s downtown, that appears to be in the elevator lobby of a building. When I went by the other day, on my way to visit OccupySeattle, the guy was actually using an e-meter at his little card table in the street.

Finally, some one makes an interface change that improves my life instead of driving me nuts with annoyance. I just noticed this morning, in gmail, the action buttons stay at the top of the screen while you are scrolling, instead of being static parts of the page that aren’t visible for any message longer than a single page.
So thanks, whatever unpaid intern probably made the change =)

The Hooters on Lake Union in Seattle has been ‘closed for remodel’ for months now. I suspected it was a permanent closure since they didn’t seem to be doing any actual work on the place, and felt certain of my suspicions when they missed the memorial day weekend. Looks like I was right.

When I decided to buy into the Kinect craze, mostly so I can play the Zumba game and impress my mom next time she wants me to come with her to a Zumba session, I knew there’d be a price to pay. The first cost was to my stopped up head; I had to re-arrange my living room to use the length of the room for viewing, instead of the width, which meant reconfiguring both AV and networking systems, which meant kicking up a lot of dust and cat fur, achoo.
There were the half-dozen reboots of the Tivo before it re-recognized the external drive, but no lost data so allswell there. Unfortunately, I noticed the right channel going out on my amp since everything got moved around, and sure enough, it’s something wrong with that component, not a simple bad cable to be replaced.
I suspect that as with most modern toys, replacement will be cheaper than repair. Seems like a waste, but thank goodness we have good, free, e-cycling options in Seattle.

I had heard the rumors, and now it turns out they are true. Should be interesting times ahead. Heck of a day to get back from vacation. Heck of a day for my boss to be out on her vacation.
UPDATE: And the snow is coming down this morning. It would be interesting if no one could make it to the office the day they make a major announcement.

I kept my landline around, even after I stopped needing it for the original Tivo, as a backup for when the cable-internet goes out, and so I could participate in the Neilsen home scan program. No more; today I finally got around to canceling ye olde POTS. If only my apartment faced south, a direct-TV/DSL bundle might have made some sort of sense.
