How do I know this song?

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014

I’m often surprised at karaoke, how often someone will sing a song I’d swear I’d never heard of before, yet turns out I know well enough to sing along. I haven’t listened to FM radio in years. Hell, I rarely listen to online podcasts, preferring to pick my own music as a general rule.

Maybe I’m just really good at faking it =p

Searching for the middle ground

Monday, July 28th, 2014

There has got to be something, between drunken karaoke, and a full men’s chorus performance commitment. I want to sing, on a regular basis, with other people who like to sing. I do not want to join a church I don’t believe in, nor sing songs of faith I do no feel, so if you suggest the church choir, I’m going to punch you in the nose.

Changing IP address in Centos

Thursday, July 24th, 2014

Finally got around to setting up my CentOS server with a static internal address, so I don’t have to keep updating my router’s forwarding table, every time the power goes down. Found it curiously interesting, editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 caused my tunneled session to disconnect as soon as I saved changes to disk, and yet once I reconnected, and finished updating DNS, completely restarting networking did NOT interrupt my login session.

Both behaviors seem unexpected and not quite right, somehow.

Cowardice and dishonesty at Mozilla

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014

I wanted to give the Firefox developers the benefit of the doubt, but after their latest release, with their ‘privacy’ policy still completed devoid of any mention on their deliberate actions to reduce user privacy and safety, to satisfy the greed of the most short-sighted members of Hollywood, without any actual cause, well, Fuck Them.

There is ZERO proof that people would abandon Firefox if they refused to let Hollywood invade users’ computers.  There is ZERO evidence that any DRM scheme in the browser has ever had any impact on piracy.  Every movie is available weeks before it is available ‘legitimately’, every live event is pirated in real-time, by serious professionals, who don’t rely on Firefox to do their dirty work.  The cowards and fools at the Mozilla foundation have abandoned their principles, and betrayed their users, to benefit no one.  And it won’t do them any good.  You’d have to be completely brain dead to think that Hollywood is ever going to be happy with the brave new world of content distribution.    You’d have to be a fucking moron to think that giving in to them a little, when you know it won’t work, won’t turn out to bite you in the ass.

And there’s the rub.  At least one or two Mozilla developers are definitely not complete morons.  But they are human beings, who need to eat.  And so, when it came down to it, they preferred a full belly, to a clear conscience.  I despise them for it, I look down upon them for it.  But more than their choice, I decry their dishonesty in the presentation of the choice they made.

Own up to your cowardice.  Or at least come up with a believable lie.  Like I said, you aren’t all morons.

X,Y, and Z are broken.

X isn’t a requirement.

That leaves Y & Z.

In retrospect

It seems like it should have been an obvious potential outcome, looking back with hindsight. It is the kind of place an alcoholic is likely to hang out.

No, for fuck’s sake!”

Yes, I will watch more of your movie.

The Flying Nun pilot

Friday, July 11th, 2014

I remember knowing the show existed, but don’t remember ever watching it as a kid, so i don’t know why I’m still having this feeling of ‘not what I expected’, as I watch the first episode of the series.

So, it is not a supernatural effect, just a semi-plausible stretch of physics.

I wish I spoke Spanish, I think I’d catch more jokes.

That’s probably lead based paint, those kids are playing in.

Quick switches between drama and comedy.

Hilton product placement?  As a hotel with a swinging 60’s night club.  Interesting.

Shooting facial expressions framed by the hat…huh.

um…they have her do a touch-n-go ‘walk’ on water?  that seems…a potentially dangerous choice

lol.  she can fly as fast as a plane.

“I can’t bear to think of her, flying alone out there, without any instruments”

“I’m not making a report on this…I wouldn’t know how to word it!”

Did they have a song for every episode?

sub capt. dabney colman, huh

2nd episode, intro is just straight shots of her flying, no narrator

ok, now there’s a narrator

“…and an Agnostic”

New episode, new song.  I wonder if there were available as singles.

she shook the bishop’s hand, instead of kissing his ring?

I’m good with two for now.

Things have been happening, some good, some bad, some work related, some not.
