I Am So Not Pissed Off

You know that old saying…

A boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into, and kids are just like boats…that you can’t sell or ride around in the water on.

Triple Door Love/Hate

Friday, October 29th, 2010

I love the way the Triple Door in Seattle gets some nifty shows.

I hate the way they make you feel if you go as a single, without a date or group of friends.   But that could just be me.

New glasses, new headache

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Picked up my new glasses yesterday, going to have to go back and get them adjusted, hope that helps.  Right now they are off kilter just enough to make me nauseous.  And they hurt my nose.  grrr at the Lenscrafters dude who was too lazy to fit them properly yesterday.

UPDATE:  Went to a different store and got the glasses fitted properly.  Got an apology from the store manager as well.  Still think I’ll get my ‘scrip sunglasses from someone else.

Art Won (crop)

I ended up the high bidder for one of two paintings at the recent Yelp Helps Seattle charity meet and greet event. It was finally dry enough to pick up yesterday. Now I just have to take down the entire back wall of my office and figure out a way to fit it into the mix.

You will be credited with voting

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

I had heard you can track the progress of your mail-in ballot, so went to the king county elections website (live view of the envelope opening station) to check it out.  After giving my info, it comes back and says that my ballot has been received, and my signature verified, then closes with the semi-sinister “you will be credited with voting”.    I’m sure it’s just wishy-wash-speak, but it still comes across a little odd to me.  Nothing about my voted being recorded, only that I’m credited for the process of voting.

Credited with whom, and what can I turn these credits over for, candy?  I like candy.

Steve Jobs hates you

Doesn’t seem to be much other reason for him to deliberately remove the screen-orientation lock button’s functionality.      There’d better be a way to lock the screen orientation in software still, or I won’t be upgrading.

Every transition, really?

We had the first ‘storm’ of the season in Seattle today, with a tiny power outage, that the local news is milking for all it’s worth.  Standard local news kind of stuff, but someone has gone a little overboard with the ripple effect transition.  We get it, it’s a water story =p

Yelp Helps Seattle

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Went to an event sponsored by Yelp last night.  It was an interesting mix of non-profits looking for volunteers and donors, local beer and liquor companies selling their wares, the standard free Pop Chips (I really do need to actually buy a bag of those eventually, I like them, I just never know what aisle to find them in when actually shopping).  There were musicians (I bought two CD’s) and painters (I bought one painting, to be picked up later…it’s possibly too big for my car, even with all the interior lain flat), and dancers.  Cupcake Royale brought some mini chocolate and peanut-butter cupcakes.  They brought so many, they were giving out little containers of three cakes to go at the end of the evening.  very tasty.

Oh yeah, me!

I’m at Half-Price books, waiting for them to total up my latest drop-off, wandering through the store, and notice they have two Melissa M Snodgrass books.  Oh wow, I think to myself, don’t see those very often.  And then it dawns on me, I recognize the books because they are ones I’ve sold them.  It got me wondering, how long it takes them to get rid of everything I’ve sold to them, and how long till they turn a profit on me, if ever.
