It’s Always Sad

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

It’s always sad to find out that a performer you really liked is actually a racist moron, who is so stupid she can actually call Obama a socialist, while praising GWB’s billions wasted killing innocent people.
Victoria, we do have freedom of speech, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have to hear from people who think what you’re saying is not well hidden racism on your part; talk about a lack of facts, pot meet kettle. I certainly won’t ever purchase one of your CD’s now.

Maybe if you spent some time being poor, you might grow a soul and a brain, but I doubt it. I sleep well knowing you’re terrified that the black man is going to get’ya. That fear and doubt you feel is all your own, and you deserve every bit of discomfort it gives you.

Blockbuster Online Sucks

Monday, December 29th, 2008

They’ve re-jiggered their shipment system again, to slow down high-speed renters like me. It ticks me off; don’t throttle the service, charge a price that makes it profitable, and stop with the deceptive advertising.
It doesn’t help that their website is mostly broken today.
And of course, they use some off-shore call center staffed with untrained monkeys. I will give that at least the untrained monkey was polite while she lied thru her teeth.

Rest In Peace

Grandma passed on this morning.   It’s not a surprise, but it’s still saddening.

Bacon Worthy

In the toys-for-tots bin at work, there is a product label, with a sticker blocking part of it, so that it reads “Bra Quest”, instead of Brain Quest (I presume). But the best part? The sticker says “juvenile” on it =)
Pic when I get home.

Bus Riding Joys

Monday, December 15th, 2008

With the snow and ice, plus the lovely hill they put the parking lot at home in, I took the bus to work today.  First there’s the idiot kid who wants to get off at the first stop after I get on, but is just passively standing there in the middle of the bus, I guess waiting for everyone else to evaporate, so he could get thru without having to do a little pushing?

Next, we’re near the next stop, near enough to see the bus ahead of us getting ready to leave.  There’s a guy at the front of our bus, begging the bus driver to let him out, so he can run across the street to catch the bus.  He has no chance of catching that bus; even if our driver had let him off, cross-traffic was solid right up to our turn to cross.  But never let reality get in the way of a good flameout, I guess.  He’s throwing his bag around, cussing the driver out, being a total dick.  Especially when he yells out, “dammit, this happens every time”, which means it’s his own damn fault for not taking an earlier bus.    When he started yelling about how our driver should be shot, I worried that the driver might stop and wait for the police or something, but he was far more practical, and just moved on.

Avoid CDConnection.com This Christmas…

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I wouldn’t place an order with them, if I were you.  They must be days away from going out of business; they’ve spammed me twice this week.  The first emails I’ve gotten from them in literally ten years.  I feel for them, before amazon came along, I used to buy all sorts of crazy music thru them.

Never again, now, though.  No matter how worthy your cause, spam is always wrong.  I wouldn’t have minded the first email quite so much, if it hadn’t been followed by the basically-a-dupe-second so pointlessly soon.  Now you must pay for your crimes against humanity.

Desperation Spam Doesn’t Work

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I can tell the economy is tight this christmas season, because I’ve started getting spammed from companies I haven’t bought from in years, in once case, over 10 years.  Part of me wants to sympathize with their obvious desperation, but there are other parts of me that just don’t think any level of desperation makes it OK to send the same pitch out twice in the same month.  It’s not just rude, it’s stupid.  It guarantees that not only won’t I buy whatever it is your advertising, it means I won’t buy ANYTHING from you, ever.  Call me crazy, but I think intentional bad-faith behavior should be punished, not coddled.

Man In The Sand (MR)

Monday, December 8th, 2008

This weekend, I watched the documentary, Man In The Sand.  It’s ostensibly about the recording of the album Mermaid Avenue, but really it’s more about Billy Bragg exploring the legacy of Woody Guthrie.  Some really good moments, like when Billy get’s quite suprised at a singer’s improv lyrics.  Well worth the rent.

Tivo Continues To Suck

Monday, December 8th, 2008

So today, in early December, Tivo releases their “Fall 2008” service update.

What a piece of work.  Complete lack of QA done on it, as far as I can tell.  I locked up my box, and I had to pull the plug to reset it.  I can only imagine how craptacular it will be once I start using it, if this is the level of care they took in putting it out, a season late.

And of course, they don’t even have an address you can email a comment to anymore.  I almost wish they won’t be one of the companies to make it thru this recession.  The way they treat people, they sure don’t deserve it, nevermind the horrible things they’ve done to what used to be a wonderfly stable product.
