My Problem With Pallin

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Whatever qualifications she has, when McCain picked her, he lost me.  Not because I think a woman shouldn’t be president, but because she was picked for her political value, not her suitability to be president.  The choice made it very clear that John McCain could care less about America, so long as he gets to ride the horse into the ground.

You could have picked the best person for the job.  Instead you picked the person most likely to get the job.

Shame on McCain.

Targeted Toys

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Target has a “Specialty Toy Boutique”.  I’m curious, so I click.

The first thing I notice is the “sing along cd player” listed under the “quiet time” heading.

Then I notice the sub-categories on the side.  They’ve got a section for “when I grow up I want to be Drama Queen + King”, an “Understanding Diversity” sub-category, which has a sub-category, “Jewish Toys”.

Oh America, you crazy marketing fool.

Lead411 a scam? – Probably not

Friday, September 26th, 2008

They claim to have a lot of info available if you sign up, but turns out they don’t actually have the info they claimed.  Unsubscribe email address listed in their signup process isn’t even a valid email address.  One can only assume that even if you did manage to get thru to them, they wouldn’t bother doing the job of unsubscribing you any better than they did at putting together a list of contact info.

UPDATE:  As you can see below, the founder of Lead411 has commented with a  certain level of explanation that certianly mollifies my inability-to-unsubscribe-related angst.  I don’t remember the exact info I used to sign-up, to validate his comment about temporary restrictions on “fishy” accounts.  Given that my corporate charter lapsed years ago, I could buy that as being marked “fishy”.

UPDATE2:  I had further off-line discussion with Tom, and feel that his explanation for my trial-signup’s limitations was reasonable.  More impressively, he immediately added a proper “abuse@” address to their mail system based on my suggestion.

Think About It…

this woman swallowed a “broken” toothbrush, but didn’t go to the doctor for help until after 6 DAYS  of pain.

That seems insanely stupid to me, but I guess some people really hate going to the doctor.

Finally Fit

Or rather, I finally HAVE a fit. Wii Fit that is.
Managed to pick one up at blockbuster of all places.

Popemobile = No Faith In God?

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

SNL had a good point tonight. How exactly does the pope justify a bulletproof car, if he’s supposed to be God’s chosen vessel on Earth?

iTunes “genius” suckage of the day

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

UPDATE:  It seems they also never heard of roman numerals, and so while playing “synchronicity II”, suggest that I don’t own “synchronicity 2”.  I’m so impressed.

Seems some less-than-thoughtful developer decided that artists who aren’t available for sale thru iTunes would get the same treatment as artists that iTunes doesn’t recognize.  So you get the rather pathetic outcome of selecting The Beatles’ “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”, and getting recommended Metallica’s “Death Magnetic”.  Yeah, really “genius” behavior there, steve jobs.

Things Discovered…

UPDATE:  So, while it turns out the EVT can trigger red light sensors, it isn’t big enough to trigger the gate at home.  Thankfully someone was leaving right after when I tried to leave, and opened the gate for me.

Now that the EVT-168 is finally running reliably (bad controller), I’m driving it enough to learn some of it’s quirks and charms. As I was sitting in the motorcycle accessory shop, waiting for the tow truck, way back when, I noticed a little dealie for sale on the counter, “Red Light Changer”. No, not the one that ambulances use, instead it’s talking about sensor-triggered lights. It’s a little magnet to increase your bike’s magnetic presence. But I don’t need one, since my whole bike is one big super magnet powered beast.

Politics, Bedfellows, Strange

There’s a TV ad here in Washington where the Repub candidate tries to trash the Demo candidate for cutting taxes. LOLZ. What a world.

Totally For Sure It’s Fixed This Time

Sound Speed Scooters didn’t call me yesterday eve like they said they would.  I took that as a pretty bad sign.

I just got off the phone with the scooter-mechanic, who claims that they think they have the problem solved now, that it was a bad controller / lithium communication channel.  He says they replaced the controller, and drove the scooter thru a full charge yesterday, without any issues.  They are going to do another full run again today, and hopefully have my bike ready tonight.

Because they’re going out of town for the weekend, so if it’s not tonight, it’s next week (he said monday, but they aren’t usually open on mondays, so…?).  Yeah, go take off for a weekend, leave me stuck, again, while we finally get some sunny weather.
