Mojo Nixon retired?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

I’m not sure how I feel about the notion that Mojo Nixon is now ‘just a DJ’ on Sirius radio.  I suppose eventually the torch must be passed on to the next generation of cow-punkers.

strange behavior

Monday, February 25th, 2008

I’m wow’crackin along on three machines, streaming music to my tivo, and all of a sudden, the tivo goes quiet.  A little later, one of the three wow machines admits he’s lost internet as well.  My first assumption is that cable went down, but no low and behold, the other two machines are indeed still connected to the net just fine.

After an entire afternoon of cable and router swapping, I’ve got everything working again, sorta.  I had to switch the laptop and the Tivo to wireless connections.  No matter what ports or cables I used, those two items just refused to work.  Oh the cable lights seemed just happy, but they couldn’t see any other machines on the network.

Very strange behavior.  And science says a computer is a finite state machine.

where’s my police state

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

As I’m driving to work, some dinkleberry riding my tail literally 75% of the trip, even when there were plenty of opportunities to pass on the highway, it occurred to me how useful a police state would be sometimes.  Then I think about the new speeding-camera system.

time matters

As I’m turning the corner onto the main street I take to the highway, I see one of my cow-orkers running for the bus.

I shall be most interested to see exactly how much longer it takes him; it’s always difficult to determine a quantitative difference between a car-trip and a bus-trip for the same route, when traffic is never the same twice.  But this is ideal.  We left the same point at approximately the same time.

buy google

It says something when I’m using amazon‘s navigation to try and find a second album by an artist, and nothing shows up, but google finds the album is on amazon, and tagged with the correct artist.

so cool

I always wanted to do something like this, but I was thinking much more complicated, and far less complete, while probably potentially more detailed. I was going to use a police radio scanner and voice recognition, to automate presenting the city-stream in a human readable, and machine indexable, form. Then again, since they give out people’s names, numbers, address, etc etc, it might have been a little difficult in the end.

blood on the wall

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

I’m on my way down the stairs this morning, when this greeted me. I dunno whose it is, or why it happened, but it’s not making me feel good about just renewing my lease for another year.

I had a free domain registration, I saw the phrase Hyper Gumbo, and here we are.
