lake union d’oh

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Managed my first accidental tip-over yakking on lake union tonight.  Some kids on the dock were playing with a ball, and it got away from them into the water.  I was helpfully tossing it back, but leaned just a bit too far and…splash.  Most importantly, my glasses remained on my head.  Well, I didn’t drown either, which is sorta important too, just not as likely a disaster.

nintendo stays stupid

At folklife this year, I saw yet another pointless Wii Fit Folklife 2008 - Wii Fit and Space Needleadvertisement.  Seriously, they didn’t make anywhere near enough Fit’s to meet the demand without any advertising, how on earth did someone justify spending thousands on a fully staffed booth, but not on enough manufacturing capacity.  Why on earth is Nintendo still paying anyone in it’s advertising department?  They seem completely superfluous, and deliberately wasteful of Nintendo resources.

too nice

It’s an odd problem to have, when the bartender is getting you too drunk.  You’re still paying the same price, but the drinks are suddenly much stronger.

Heart Surgery

My mom needs heart valve repair, she says.

She says this like it’s just a minor thing, a tonselectomy level for concern.

I am not convinced it is so simple.

strange behavior

Monday, February 25th, 2008

I’m wow’crackin along on three machines, streaming music to my tivo, and all of a sudden, the tivo goes quiet.  A little later, one of the three wow machines admits he’s lost internet as well.  My first assumption is that cable went down, but no low and behold, the other two machines are indeed still connected to the net just fine.

After an entire afternoon of cable and router swapping, I’ve got everything working again, sorta.  I had to switch the laptop and the Tivo to wireless connections.  No matter what ports or cables I used, those two items just refused to work.  Oh the cable lights seemed just happy, but they couldn’t see any other machines on the network.

Very strange behavior.  And science says a computer is a finite state machine.
