I’m not a big fan of political strategist companies, who’ve commoditized our democracy so that whomever has the biggest warchest wins, but that’s the way of the world these days, so be it.
So it’s an annoyed amusement, when I get one of those massive postcard fliers for some nameless PAC that doesn’t have any positive agenda to put forward, they just want you to know how much they hate the current guy, and they have a link to website for information about their campaign…and the website is a wordpress site that’s still locked down to admin users only. Truly brilliant. Whomever paid WinPower Strategies for their anti port commissioner campaign seems to have wasted their money. oops.

The north Seattle Scientology center near my old place closed up a few months ago. As I was driving past last night, I noticed that the new tenant, a psychic, seems to keep the parking lot full of customers, where it was always empty under the the Tom-Tom’s.
Their long-standing facility of 99 on Queen Anne has been closed for a while now too.
They have a new place, behind the crack mc-donald’s downtown, that appears to be in the elevator lobby of a building. When I went by the other day, on my way to visit OccupySeattle, the guy was actually using an e-meter at his little card table in the street.

Something’s up with comcast DNS today. It’s refusing to resolve a couple of sites for me so far. I don’t really have the time or inclination to make a further investigation, but I suspect Down for Everyone Or Just Me will get a lot of hits from comcast customers today. Or maybe it’s just my local network.

There’s a spot near work, by the drive-through to the Starbucks, where water puddles up into a perfect spot for splashing the sidewalk next to it. Lots of the cars going to the drive-thru make a point of trying to splash the pedestrians. Some a decent folk and make a point of trying not to splash.
As I was walking past today, a car tried to hit the puddle for maximum splash, but instead ran over the curb. I pointed and laughed, and once he’d rolled down his window, expressed my opinion of his value as a human being. The real revenge will be the repair bill for the damage he did his front suspension.
What a maroon.

In one of those coincidences that make you wonder, I was just the other day discussing with a friend, how having a duplicate of all my music and photos at work didn’t do much for proper disaster-recovery-style-off-site-backup, since the two locations are less than 100 yards apart, and any disaster likely to physically destroy my home would destroy work as well….and Sunday, just after the cable-man came and got me 90% up and running, the power went down in my neighborhood, killing machines at both locations. Thankfully, everything is coming back online without issue, so far.
It occurs to me, I now know for certain that you can power off the scanner before the PC is done post-processing.

I was talking to a guy yesterday, a bit down on his luck and scraping by, who had hitchhiked to Seattle from Alabama with no real plan for what he’d do once he got here. When I asked where he was living, he said he’s renting a room at the gay bathhouse. I had never even considered people might do something like that. I suppose the staff doesn’t care, as long as you pay every 12 hours. It does make me itchy just thinking about the ratio of room-turnover to deep-cleaning opportunities, but I suppose if you’ve been sleeping outside for weeks at a time, it’s still an improvement.

Went and saw Frank and friends at the Jazz Alley last night. He brought rhythm guitar and violin, a sparse setup on stage of three little sound cubes, only the violinist having a pedal to fiddle with. They started out fast and just kept getting faster. He is truly amazing when he gets going. It was a very funny and energetic show, with covers of Led Zepp, ballet, and opera, alongside the expected Django renditions. Every once in a while, they’d thrown in a synchronized physical flourish, like little faux ballet moves during the ballet cover, and guitar-kicks during the rock numbers. Which is not to say it wasn’t a jazz show, with intimate audience interaction and banter with a recognized regular in that oh-so-knowing tone of who-remembers-when-best-oh-weren’t-those-the-days. He had this funky little tuning device on the end of his guitar, looked almost like a prism, and would change colors between red, green, I think yellow, and blank, as he played.
Foodwise, the spaghetti and meatballs was it’s usual tasty, but for whatever reason, our waitress never gave me a chance to order dessert, oh well. I suppose if I’d really had to have some key-limey-ness, I could have stopped by Whole Foods on the way home, but I was hurrying to get my Chocolati fix on.

The Snoqualmie Tribe has legalized marijuana for the duration of a Willie Nelson concert at their 24×7 vegas-style casino. The Hereditary Chief, Jerry Enick, says “This goes against all Native values and morals”.
Selling liquor, tobacco, fireworks, and gambling are OK, but pot is just too much?

You could tell it was these ladies first kayaking trip on lake union. When the seaplanes started landing, they started freaking out, screaming and yelling in literal panic. Now I will admit the pilots like to cut as close as they can, but this guy isn’t touching down anywhere near as close as I’ve had them land next to me.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, a bed in the bedroom, and internet on tap. It’s almost like everything is coming together. I still have some stuff at the old place, mostly things to go to goodwill, or the e-cycler. And the on-site guy still hasn’t added me to the callbox yet, will have to message him about that one today.
Inside the new place is still a bit of a disaster, though the living room and bedrooms are at least usable. It is going to be a long time before I can make/record anything musical though.
And it sounds like the person above me put in hardwood floors, that they only walk on in hard-soled shoes. Time will tell how I really feel about that one, now that I can make masking sounds of my own.
