Nevermind

Monday, April 9th, 2012

I found a local board-game playing group on Meetup, signed up for a gaming session. Then they sent out the list of games for tonight. I’ve only heard of one of them, never played any. Some appear to be games that require personal card decks.

Oh well.

Disaster averted?

A few weeks ago, I finally got down to my bank to fill out the paperwork to switch to their ‘budget pay’ program, an every-other-Friday pay scheme that nets an extra payment per year, the kind of thing that adds up in the good direction, for a mortgage.

When I’m there, I ask the woman when they will start taking payments under the new scheme, and she assures me that it will start up this month. Except that by the end of last Friday, there was still no payment made. Looking at the paperwork, I’m now 99.999% certain she was wrong, and that if I hadn’t manually done a full month’s payment, I would have ended up ‘late’ before they notified me of their mistake.

Now I’m wishing I’d just left well-enough alone, and just done the extra payments on my own.

Our Lady Peace in Seattle

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

I noticed flyers yesterday, for an Our Lady Peace concert, at the Crocodile. It is the first band I’ve seen playing there, since they re-opened, that I would actually want to see. But the price is $30, and that’s just not going to happen. I don’t like them that much, for one thing, but more importantly, I can’t imagine any show that could fit into the Crocodile, that is worth $30. Maybe they really have spiffed things up enough inside to make it worth that sort of investment, but since they didn’t magically add 4,000 sq ft, I don’t see how.

You are not helping

Me: I need you to move this call to fnX(), because it calls GWT.create, into the view layer, instead of the presenter layer.
Dev: Here, I replaced the call to fnX() with a direct call to GWT.create, still in the presenter layer.

And we are back =)

Thank goodness it was only a minor problem, and all has been restored.

He’s My Best Friend

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

There are many songs that I sing along to, yet never really listen to the lyrics all that closely, and so eventually discover I had a completely incorrect interpretation of the song. My understanding of the lyrics led me to think of this song as being about a closeted gay guy and his crush on his best friend.

I’d like to blame some of my confusion on originally hearing these songs on old school cassette tapes and my cheap-o boom box. I’d like to. But, “it’s palm sunday over and over”…well, I have little excuse =p

ah, work

me: So, this stuff I’m supposed to be testing, it doesn’t seem to actually do anything with permissions…
dev: yeah, we haven’t implemented any of that stuff yet.
me: OK, is there a design for how it will be implemented?
dev: Nope.

Nothing lasts

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Last week, I was almost excited to see that, in contrast to previous years, I was doing ‘OK’ in the office March Madness pool, in 5th place, instead of last like I usually am. But I’m back down to next-to-last active pooler. Oh well. It’s not like I did anything but push the button that said ‘auto-fill bracket’. =p

Nothing to say

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Today, I have nothing to say
About what’s gone before
nor what lies ahead
All a mystery, inside this mixed up head

Today, I have nothing to say
No apologies or explanations
Just that look of confusion
that says more than words.

Today, I have nothing to say
Just tears to fall
Gallons and gallons of misery
For all the world to see
But no words that I can speak,
for today, I have nothing to say.

Here’s hoping

Here’s hoping that today will be better
than yesterday
Here’s hoping that a path will present
itself before me.
Here’s hoping that today will be better
It couldn’t be much worse.
It probably will be
But, here’s hoping.
