It’s a little surreal today, first the governor declares a state of emergency, and now the city is recommending people leave work now, so that they are home before dark. It’s like we expect the zombies and vampires to come out any second now. Will I make the 100 yards to my home?! Only time will tell! Tune in next week for the exciting conclusion. =p

It would seem the geekworld’s favorite helper-to-hate, Clippy, has gotten a job at Google’s GMail division. You can see his influence in the new look, with it’s unhelpful way of showing and hiding buttons, assuming you can’t keep track of who your friends are by name, nor really want to see your big screen monitor actually full of useful information.
Hopefully someone will notice, and fire his ass, before it’s too late =p

I tried to do a good deed for the day. I see more than a few people, over the course of this ‘storm’, waiting at the bus stop outside my window at work, a stop that is closed when Metro is on snow routes. So, I put a sign up in the window that says “Bus Stop Closed”, and it only took this guy about 10 minutes before he looked up an noticed it.

Yesterday, noticed more than a couple people waiting at bus stops that were closed due to the lines that served those stops being on snow routes.
This morning, I notice that the bus maintenance people are helpfully clearing snow from the same, closed, stops. I pity the sucker that thinks they are open because they’ve been cleared.

No, not Tori.
A cousin/uncle/whatever, about a niece or daughter…a little girl he feels nothing but familial love for, I’m sure, he posts a pic of her to facebook, with the intent of captioning her as ornery, as in precocious and troublesome in a cute sort of way, but instead calls her honry, which at first glance makes it look like he’s calling a tweenager ‘horny’.
Probably not his intent.

I’ve always had a non-sexual thing for Kristy McNichol (loved her in Empty Nest), and now I’m wondering if it wasn’t awareness of shared circumstances. Of course, of the two stars in The Pirate Movie, she’s not my first choice for coming out announcement hopes. Because when a star you have a crush on announces they are coming out, it’s obviously implied that they are looking to date a fan =p

I’m thinking about trying to replicate one of my favorite GHP mashups, Bus Stop Runner, as a karaoke song tonight. It won’t be an exact replica, since the mashup cut’s and jumps around, but I think I can make it work as a straight sing-along; the tempo of Bus Stop will have to be adjusted in parts, and there’s at least one part where Shoot The Runner is in a chorus, while Bus Stop is in a verse, but it’s all fixable.

Another part of the weekend’s nostalgia overload, a marathon session of Jason of Star Command. I had remembered the bad guy’s monocle, but there was so much I had forgotten that came back once I started watching. As a kid, I probably didn’t notice that they not only reused sound FX from Star Trek, they even reuse some of the musical cues. I’m certain as a Star Wars obsessed kid, the ‘evil’ wookie-alikes would have been notable. And now I know why the minister from Mom and Dad Save The World seemed so familiar; I was remembering him from Jason.
But the biggest ‘discovery’ was the do-anything-even-fly-through-space-yet-fit-in-a-fanny-pack robot, W1k1, aka Wiki. Wikipedia’s biography claims it comes from the Hawaiian word for quick, but obviously Jimmy Wales was a big Jason fan =p It’s a robot that is capable of interstellar travel, has a built in laser for freeing Jason from the inevitable chains in the dungeon scenes, and R2D2 like one-understandable-sided-jokes.

Today is going to be a bad day at our office, for anyone on a diet. We’ve already had bagels and fruit for breakfast, plus the VP wandering around the office with a little red cart full of donuts, and there’s still lunch and the 3pm party yet to go.
I’m glad I did an extra set of crunches this morning. Not enough to make a difference, really, but still a feel-good-exercise =p

That’s what I’ve decided to call soft gingerbread, baked in a cake pan. It’s not like it’s actually ground up gingerbread man, plus filler, but metaphorically it seems close enough, and then I get to say “man meat” with plausible deniability =p
