Return of Rhodies BBQ

In one of those moments that make you question your sanity, just a little for a sec, I’m on my way to have lunch at my cheap chinese favorite, when I see signs for Rhodies BBQ. This is confusing because a couple years ago, they closed up shop without much notice, saying they were still open out in marysville North Bend, and available for catering. Someone else eventually moved into the space, but their BBQ wasn’t as good. I had to try it out, so I stopped by. The menu is definitely the Rhodies I remember, but the guy behind the counter wasn’t recognizable. The food tastes right; certainly better than the not-Rhodies that was there for a while.

Nothing as exciting as my encounter with Andrew ‘Dice’ Clay; saw Tom Douglas and a couple of other guys clustered around the parking pay station near his new South Lake Union restaurant.

Lunch Today – deep fried pepper burger

Lunch today was the deep fried pepper burger at Zayda Buddy’s, with tater tots. It was quite tasty. They only deep fry the patty part, the bun is just toasted =p It was massive, and the tater tots (an extra $2 seems a bit excessive, but whatever) were the properly done that gets them nice and crunchy on the outside, while still moist and delicious on the inside. Still so many things to try on that menu, and not a single one of them ‘healthy’.

Zadya Buddy’s does a good mac and cheese

I’m quite intrigued at the notion of a mac and cheese pizza, but didn’t try it on the first visit, getting the ‘hot dish’ mac and cheese instead. It was quite tasty. Lots of cheesy goodness, crumbly crunchy bread bits on top that weren’t overdone, and a portion size that left me with something on my plate even after I felt properly stuffed. All in all a good meal was had.

Another day, another shepherd’s pie. This one came with a couple of slices of bread, no salad, and left me overstuffed, with leftovers to take home. Tastewise, it did a great job as well, a nice crusty surface for the potatoes, a good mix of meat and veggies for the insides. Will be back.

Flavor Tripping

For our random-friday-event, we tried some of the magic fruit tablets. We had a selection of lemons, sour-gummi-worms, cheetos, granny smith apples, guiness stout, etc. The lemon and the apple were most obviously ‘wrong’ in tasting so sweet. The gummi worm just tasted like all the sour crystals weren’t there (but they were). Dark chocolate and cheetos were not affected in any noticeable way. When I got back to my office, tried some sour cream and onion bunnies, didn’t notice an affect on them either, but now I’m feeling a build up of sweetness on the back of my throat.

I’m also getting a bit of a headache.

An interesting experience, glad I didn’t have to pay for it.

at least for my Signature Hot Chocolate drinking days. The store that promised to stock up just for me let me know that their stock up order was refused, and they are out stock now and forever more =(

Starbucks Disaster!

Oh noes!

I got the inside word today, Starbucks is discontinuing the Signature Hot Chocolate. First it was my chantico, then the Odwalla, and now the siggy. They just really don’t want my non-coffee-money. =(
