Unless you really want to play with my cat’s poop, in which case, unless you are my vet, I’d suggest therapy. After a day of OK, Mabel poops on the floor again =(

Mabel was very eager to play this morning, and I almost stayed home from work for the day. But then she jumped up from my chest, used her litter box to pee, then walked over to the carpet and pooped, right in front of me.
I’m really hoping that it’s just coincidental illness, and that all the sneezing and runny nose has nothing to do with my new cat. I had 2 short hair domestic cats for ~16 years….it’s been 2 months since the last one passed on, and I was ready to start again. I couldn’t find a pair at the shelter that I felt right about, but there was one sweetie who is at home now. Right now, I’m still a little disconcerted every time we snuggle up on the couch. She’s front declawed, and such a cuddler, it seems unlikely someone deliberately abandoned her. Or maybe I’m just underestimating how little some people might care about their pets. Either way, I wonder if someone is missing her, but I’m glad she’s with me now.
I keep turning to see how he’d react to something on TV, or just to make sure he’s still there…but he’s not.
I come in the door,
I want to tell you I’m home
But you’re gone, forever gone
I come in the door,
I cry on the floor
Because you are gone, forever gone
For 17 years, you’ve always been there
Now you’re gone, forever gone
I called you my friend,
But failed you in the end
And you’re gone, forever gone.
I have made an appointment with my vet. The latest round of pills just doesn’t seem to be doing much for him, and he seems very miserable.
The cat is still unwell. Today, we see a specialist, to see if he is still strong enough to survive having a feeding tube implanted surgically. Of course they still haven’t given me any clear indication that they even know why he got sick in the first place, or if he will ever get better from that, so I’m not clear if the feeding tube is that great of an idea or not, especially for a cat as old as he is (17+ years).
Now I’m starting to feel sick too. Is it stress, zoonotic cross-contamination from my cat, or completely coincidental illness? blargh.
Just an FYI, I did notice the change from 24 cans to only 12, in the bulk package. We shall have to see how I feel about this once I’ve done the math.
I was making a burger on the stove at home tonight, and accidentally opened the wrong side of the pepper box, pour instead of sift. I scraped off the worst of it, finished the cooking, and ended up with a perfectly tasty meal, and a bunch of wasted pepper, some of which came off the burger in solid sheets as I was eating it. D’ohwell.
I set the plate to the side as I watch a movie, thinking nothing of it till I see my cat jump off the table, drooling like a waterfall. The internet seems to think it won’t kill my cat, and after he drank some water, he seemed OK. But I suspect, in the future, he will think twice before eating something off my plate.
Then again, he has tried, and disliked, salsa before. Perhaps he is playing the odds; two out of a gazillion stolen bites might seem worth it.
Yesterday when I got home from the doc, found the cat had made a little mess by the litter box, and missed it entirely with a pee. After I cleaned everything up, I put the drip pan from the old clothes washer under the litter box, as an extra insurance policy.
This morning, on my way to work, I noticed the cat hadn’t used the box at all since. No pee or poo for over 12 hours.
UPDATE: Litter box is still untouched, but twist isn’t acting especially unhappy.
